GWTD-Dial-A-Ride Information Guide

 

The GWTD-Dial-A-Ride transportation program was created under the Municipal Grant Program for Elderly and Disabled Demand Responsive Transportation, CGS 13b-38bb.

 

The eight Greater Waterbury Transit District municipalities and the Greater Waterbury Transit District Board of Directors applied for the grant to do coordinated transportation in our region for the seniors and persons with disabilities. The Greater Waterbury Transit District includes Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown and Wolcott.

 

To be eligible to use the GWTD-Dial-A-Ride Transportation Service you must be:

a.     60 years and older OR

b.     A person with a disability AND

c.     A resident of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown or Wolcott

 

An application needs to be filled out and returned to the designated address to start to use the GWTD-Dial-A-Ride. An ID card will be sent to you to use to make reservations and board the vehicle.

 

OPERATING POLICIES

 

Hours of Service: Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

                               Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Weekday of Municipality Service: Monday- Waterbury

                                                          Tuesday- Naugatuck and Watertown

                                                          Wednesday- Thomaston

                                                          Thursday- Middlebury and Prospect

                                                          Friday- Cheshire and Wolcott

 

Saturday Municipality Service: 1st Week- Thomaston and Watertown

                                                     2nd Week- Middlebury and Naugatuck

                                                     3rd Week- Cheshire and Prospect

                                                     4th Week- Waterbury and Wolcott

 

Service Areas: The Service Area for the GWTD-Dial-A-Ride includes Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown and Wolcott. 

 

Reservations: Reservations can be made 3 to 14 days in advance. Call the phone number on your ID card to schedule your trip between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

 

Fares:  No fares.

 

Be Ready for the Vehicle:

This is a shared ride.  Due to uncontrollable circumstances the vehicle may arrive earlier or later than your scheduled pick-up time.  Please be ready 15 minutes prior to your scheduled pick-up time and allow for pick-up 15 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time.

 

Safety and Courtesy:  GWTD-Dial-A-Ride reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who is discourteous or who may endanger his/her safety or the safety of the driver and other passengers.  Smoking is not allowed in the vehicle.

 

Use Seat Belts:  All passengers are required to use the seat belts provided on the vehicles.  Please ask the driver for assistance, if needed.  Wheelchair securements must be performed by the driver only.

 

Attendants:  Medical attendants or aides can accompany a person.  Special trips for the attendants alone will not be made.

 

Carry your GWTD-Dial-A-Ride I.D. Card: 

You must carry your I.D. Card at all times while riding the vehicle.  You must show your I.D. Card to the driver, if asked.

 

Curb-to-Curb Service:  GWTD-Dial-A-Ride service is “curb-to-curb.” Upon request, “door to door” service may be accommodated if the access is clear of any vehicles, snow, ice, or other debris.  All ramps must be flat and built to proper building code specifications.  Assistance will be provided to passengers boarding and deboarding vehicles if needed.  Under no circumstances are drivers permitted to enter client’s homes or other buildings.

 

Trip Changes:  Trip changes or requests for service cannot be made with the driver.  All trip requests and/or changes must be made by calling the number on your I.D. card.

 

Cancellations:  Trip cancellations must be phoned in to the number on your I.D. card as much in advance as possible.  An uncancelled trip is considered a “NO-SHOW”.  Persons with four no-shows or cancellations in a sixty (60) calendar day period may be suspended from service.

 

Shopping Bags:  Shoppers should transport shopping bags so they can be safely stowed on the vehicle, under their seat, and so on and off loading does not take an unreasonable amount of time.  No more than 5 bags are allowed.

 

Holidays: No service on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

 

Inclimate Weather:  Service is very rarely cancelled except under extremely hazardous conditions. In severe weather conditions cancellation of service can be heard on TV Channels 30, 3, and 8. On Radio stations WATR 1320 AM, WMMW 1470 AM and WWCO 1240.
